Patch v1.5 *yawn*

The patch to version 1.5 of Phenomenon 32 is now available. It fixes some issues with the Reconstruction Workshop and adds a more accessible control scheme.

And I need sleep. More updates tomorrow.

    more updates? wow, nice

i only had time to play a bit, but i loved the intro and what i managed to see from the first few couple of levels.

are there checkpoints in any of the levels, though? ’cause replaying the level from the start is a bit punishing. a difficulty setting(or a checkpoints on/off checkbox, so people who don’t want them can turn’em off) would be nice.

also congrats on getting the game out the door!

  2. No, I fear there are no checkpoints in any of the levels. To me that is essential to the feeling of danger – too many games these days make it almost impossible to lose, and I wanted to avoid that. The fact that the game is very difficult at first can be frustrating, but it also means that the upgrades are actually worth it.

The new controls made a noticeable difference. Thanks! 🙂

Upgrading structural integrity helps a lot, especially early on. Between technology research, reconstructed items, and workshop upgrades, I ended up with over a hundred SI by the end of the game. My ship was so tough it could survive level-3 radiation areas before adding the corresponding protection. (I ended up getting places well before I should have story-wise.)

Beyond unlocking new areas, higher-level main weapons make a big difference in combat. The fusion gun is nice, but the ion and plasma guns are totally awesome. I originally skipped over the ion gun and went straight for the plasma gun, using its heavy damage and splash radius to crush my enemies and see them driven before me. However, the ion gun shoots through walls and absolutely devastates mechanical enemies. I would have picked it up a lot earlier if I had known how good it was.

In the end, I mostly used special items except to break barriers or repair my ship.

By the way, were there any important items to collect in the mission delivering the new compression coil? I ended up taking the underground path and avoiding all the enemies, but now I’m short nine reconstruction items and can’t for the life of me figure out where they are. It’s possible that I missed some areas, but I’ve explored fairly thoroughly. Then again, some of them were hidden in out-of-the-way places.

    Yay!

The idea is actually to reward the more daring players by allowing them to reach these areas ahead of time, which makes things easier.

No, that would just be unfair.

Some of the stuff is hidden quite well – though I also suspect I may have made a mistake somewhere, and maybe one of the reconstruction thingies can’t be finished. I’m checking it out, but the game is so big and even in Construct the items are hard to find.

Ah. I’m missing all six of the last reconstruction item (improved ship design, I think) and one each of the three items above that. I originally thought I had missed an entire area, but maybe they’re just hiding in the corners somewhere.

  6. (MINOR SPOILER)

One of the two exits (the upper one, I think) from Wasteland [752|576] should lead to an industrial area where all six can be found.

Got ’em. Now I just need to find the last Saganite Converter, Stealth Field Generator, and Plasma Generator items…
