Hancock

Verena: This movie was like a person being drawn and quartered. Every piece of it seemed to be going in a different direction.

Jonas: …that’s true. It was a lot less than the sum of its parts.

Verena: It’s like they tried to make four different versions of the same movie and then just cut them together at random.

Jonas: Exactly.

And that’s what we think about Hancock. Will Smith was, as always, excellent, but the movie went off in all sorts of directions, many of them wrong. Instead of having layers, this movie had pieces. And the pieces didn’t fit. Which is a shame, because the central idea has a lot of potential.

Museum Vista Patch

Sorry for being a bit late with this. I was incredibly tired last night, and totally forgot to upload the file.

Anyway, here it is (1.14 MB). Download and extract into the game’s folder, overwriting the original file, then run the game. That should make it work. If it doesn’t, let me know – I have no other way of testing this, since we don’t have Vista. But it should be fine.

Stuff to be added

I’m considering putting up my “Projects” page again. I’d taken it down when I moved servers because it never seemed to be up-to-date, and because I generally don’t like to say too much about what I’m working on (I’d rather put the energy into the actual work). But it’s probably not a bad thing to have on the website, so it’ll probably go back up, with more info.

Sometimes I also consider putting the “donations” button back up, but with three donations in five years I’m not sure it’s worth it. (I’m not bitter about this. It’s kind of hilarious.)

Anything else? Oh, yeah, the Museum of Broken Memories patch. Tonight. Let’s see if this one works.

And if you happen to have one of those odd computers where Desert Bridge is resized and won’t work properly, please email me. I could really use some help to figure out this problem. It’s not a bug, you see – Desert Bridge doesn’t even have the ability to resize itself. No, as I said elsewhere, this isn’t a case of Desert Bridge doing something, it’s a case of Windows doing something TO Desert Bridge. I think. So, if you want to help – let me know.

Happy Birthday, Eddie!

Today is Eddie Izzard‘s birthday. And since Eddie Izzard is probably the funniest man alive, here’s a clip from Definite Article, my favourite show of his. I tend to quote this rather a lot.

And I will stop posting YouTube videos now. Maybe.

John Wayne’s Teeth

Smoke Signals isn’t my favourite movie of all time, but this song is just absolutely hilarious. (The video is not from the movie. I wish I could find the whole scene from the movie on YouTube, but the only video I can find is too short.)

Transformers

We saw Transformers yesterday.

Verena: So, the real test: is this worse than Immortel?

Jonas: They’re bad in different ways. If these two movies were sweets…

Verena: What?

Jonas: Sweets. If these two movies were candy.

Verena: Oh.

Jonas: If it was candy, then Immortel would be poisonous. Transformers would be just a little unhealthy, and bland… but buying it would be supporting Hitler!

Full review may follow when my brain stops hurting.

Last Rose / Infinite Ocean mirrors

Since apparently some people were having the occasional bit of trouble downloading from the JustAdventure server, I uploaded copies of Last Rose in a Desert Garden and The Infinite Ocean to this site. So, if you want to see some of my older work, it should now be easier.

Awesome.

There’s a review of Desert Bridge up at Jay is Games which is so awesome that words simply fail me. Well, actually they don’t. Awesome is a pretty good word. And awesome it is.

That being said, House at Desert Bridge is a wonderful work to behold. It’s a story book for grown ups, a fairy tale for philosophers and parents. It instills in you the memory of what it is like to view the world as a child, to see everything with wonder, and at the same time it bears the burden of age, conflict, and struggle. It is a labor of love that is a story that is about labors of love, and while it’s not for everyone, if such things appeal to you, I suggest you check out the manual from Bob the Spider (comes with the download, for your convenience), and step through the window that leads to the House at Desert Bridge.

The bit that I put in italics – that’s perhaps what made me the happiest. Because that really is the essence of the game.

And that’s why I need another mirror. Hmm – let’s see if I can get my JustAdventure webspace to work again. I always have to end up asking for technical assistance, because in the time between games they tend to change stuff on their server, and I always feel rather embarrassed about it…

Hosting

I could really use some input here: what would be some possibilities for hosting Desert Bridge? I could really use a couple of mirrors, to ease this site’s burden.

Would really appreciate some suggestions.

Got the wrong Kyratzes?

My wife's website is over there. There are no other people called Kyratzes online as far as we know.
